Ted's Montana Grill
Paula Owens is the purchasing and sustainability manager for Ted’s Montana Grill, which was founded on the belief that businesses could be successful yet preserve the natural world. Ted’s has been “going green” ever since.
Owens oversees composting and recycling, energy-efficient lighting and solar power, waterless urinals, and conversion of spent grease to bio-fuels, as well as other sustainability efforts in 44 locations. As purchasing manager, she supports the company’s sustainability efforts by selecting vendors/suppliers who share its passion for the environment, as well as sustainable and ecologically friendly products.
Ted’s has been a pioneer for change in the restaurant industry since 2002. To further its commitment to sustainability, Owens introduced three new initiatives in 2013 that resulted in Ted’s having become the first restaurant company to:
Convert from traditional wood-based papers to tree-free paper made from bagasse (the waste by-product of the sugarcane production process)
Offset a portion of its annual water usage by funding the efforts to restore water flow to the Upper Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, Colo
Partner with Pro*Act in the Greener Fields Together program, am industry-wide sustainability and local produce initiative
