Turner Foundation
The National Restaurant Association Conserve Initiative was made possible in part by a generous grant from the Turner Foundation. Founded in 1990 by Ted Turner, Turner Foundation Inc. is a private, independent family foundation committed to preventing damage to the natural systems -- water, air, and land -- on which all life depends. The Foundation focuses its grants in four areas: safeguarding habitat; engaging, organizing and empowering new constituencies to ensure the future protection of our environment; creating solutions for sustainable living; and restoring or mitigating the effects of non-sustainable practices in order to enrich our quality of life and the health of our future communities.
Energy Star
The National Restaurant Association has partnered closely with ENERGY STAR for years to help provide restaurant operators with great tools and resources for reducing their energy costs.
ENERGY STAR, a joint effort of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, offers significant resources for restaurant operators, including:
Food Service Technology Center (FSTC)
The Food Service Technology Center is a research facility that is dedicated to testing the energy performance of commercial kitchen equipment. In addition to being a clearing house of information on appliance performance, the FSTC has expertise in commercial kitchen ventilation, hot water heating, and building energy efficiency, including lighting, glazing and HVAC. The Food Service Technology Center is funded by California utility customers and administered by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission. Fisher-Nickel, inc. operates the Center for PG&E.
