The National Restaurant Association has created a "Green Task Force" of Association Board members and has set the following mission and vision for the Conserve Initiative:
Mission: Lead operators to implement environmentally friendly practices that link sustaining the environment with business growth through promotion, support and education.
Vision: Restaurant and foodservice operators thriving and prospering while achieving wide scale adoption of voluntary practices which lead to measurable improvements on the industry’s environmental impact.
Spending on utilities consumes approximately 2.5 percent to 3.4 percent of total restaurant sales.
