Track water use

What are you spending? Track water use

Do you know how much you are spending on water each month? Do you know how much you've spent on water this year versus last year? If your water costs spiked, would you know if there was a major leak in your restaurant?

If you answered 'no' to any of these questions, it’s time to start tracking and benchmarking your water use.

By tracking your restaurant's water use, you’ll be able to:

  • Ensure water and sewer bills are correct.
  • Establish a baseline of your restaurant’s regular water use. Identify anomalies in water use, such as leaks, open valves, broken equipment, etc.
  • Measure the impact of your water-efficiency efforts.

Tracking your water use is essential to managing your utility costs and saving money.

Here are a few tips to get the process underway:

  • Check out tracking tools like the Energy Star Portfolio Manager. You'll need your energy bills and some basic information about your building to get started.
  • Ask your water utility representative if they can provide you with a summary of your billing history.
